A message from the Chair of the Anglo-Belarusian Society
I would like to draw your attention to two upcoming events:
1. Belarusian Children’s Hospice
Please support this charity. The Hospice is doing great work in Belarus in offering palliative care to seriously ill children. For more details see the website of the Friends of the Hospice: friends-bch.org.uk.
In particular please sponsor Joe Hardman on his bike ride from London to Paris. He is hoping for a total of £1000, of which he has already raised £670. Mr Hardman is the husband of the Chairwoman of the Friends. Sponsor him through his fundraising website: justgiving,com/joehardman.
I intend to try to organise a meeting of the Society to hear about the work of the Hospice and related charities.
2. Conference on the Grand Duchy of Lithuania
Liberty, Power and Identity in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania: The Legacies and Lessons of the Commonwealth
Organised to mark the millennium of Lithuania, this conference will be held on Wednesday 21 October in the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London.
The organisers have been able to include a scholar from Belarus in the programme – Hienadz Sahanovich. I hope that as many as possible of the friends and members of the Society will be able to attend. Full details are available at http://www.ssees.ac.uk/gdl.htm.
